It’s kind of crazy thinking about it. It took three visits to Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) in order for Jen to ride all of the park’s coasters. It wasn’t because the park was busy during our visits. Quite the opposite, actually.
Our first visit was cut short due to rain so she was only able to ride four coasters. Those coasters were: El Toro, Flash Vertical Velocity, Medusa, and Superman Ultimate Flight. Even if the storms hadn’t come through the region that day, she wouldn’t have been able to complete the park as Batman was on extended downtime. Runaway Train was closed. Barrels O’ Fun wasn’t open yet. You can read more about that first visit in the trip report, “Six Flags Great Adventure – Cut Short by a Storm.”
Our second visit came on the way home from our New England region trip to visit Quassy, Lake Compounce, and Six Flags New England (SFNE). It was a scorching hot day and rides kept going down throughout our stay. Jen would get to ride Dark Knight, Harley Quinn Crazy Train, Joker, Nitro, Runaway Train, and Skull Mountain. Batman was still facing extended downtime. Barrels O’ Fun was close to opening, but wasn’t ready to go just yet. Jersey Devil Coaster was down for the entire day. Then Jen was told she needed a kid to ride Lil’ Devil Coaster, which has never been the case and is not stated anywhere on their signage or web site. So how would we fair this time around? Would the third time be the charm for Jen? We did have some promising news going in. Batman was finally opened for the season and Barrels O’ Fun opened shortly after our second visit. Fingers crossed!
Things Didn't Look Promising to Start
When we walked into the park, I was instantly annoyed. We walked over to find Jersey Devil Coaster closed. Nitro? Closed. Wonder Woman closed too. Justice League Battle for Metropolis… Yup, closed! Seriously, SFGAdv. What is up with all the constant/regular reoccurring ride closures this year?
We ended up getting on Dark Knight and the Giant Wheel to start the day. From there we went to Skull Mountain and it went down while getting in line (it also happened later in the day when getting in line again). And with everything in the area down, the lines for Flash, Joker, and Batman were long. I think Batman was only running one train to start the day too. The queue was backed up out of the station building and into the Gotham City park outside. I haven’t seen that in decades!
Eventually our day would get better as rides began to open up and stay open. Jen ended up getting in everything she was missing, including Lil’ Devil Coaster. Did she have a kid? Nope. She just got in line like last time and the ride op didn’t say anything to her about needing a kid. There was an adult on the ride prior to hers without a kid too. So who knows what the rule is? I wonder if SFGAdv knows themselves?
Jersey Devil Coaster
Finally! Jen was able to ride her first single rail RMC. She loves Wildcat’s Revenge, Twisted Timbers, and had a blast on Wicked Cyclone. While this would be something totally different, I figured she’d still enjoy it. We almost got to ride this during our rain-shortened visit in back in June, but were ultimately turned away. We were on the station when the park began closing rides. We would have been on that next train out. With it closed the second visit coming back from New England, this felt like a long time coming.
I was also excited to ride this for the first time in a while. My last RMC single rail rides came on Railblazer at California’s Great America (CGA) back in June. While I do like that one more, there are elements like the stall that I love on this ride. I also realized that I like the over the shoulder straps on Jersey Devil more too.
Thankfully the line for this wasn’t long as we got to it right after it finally opened. We had an awesome ride and I was in the back seat. The airtime was hitting and it was one of my best rides on the Devil to date. Jen also liked the ride as did our two other friends, Scott and D’Marcus, who came along with us this trip. We thought about riding twice, but by time we got off the ride the queue had grown quite a bit. With Nitro still closed at the time, guests had less options in the area.
El Toro
Earlier this year when Sam and I visited SFGAdv, we had some good rides on El Toro. I was happy to experience the coaster riding better than it has in recent years. In my three other visits this year, however, I feel like my rides haven’t been consistent. This visit, if I’m being honest, the ride was not enjoyable. We even sat in the fourth row, avoiding the back altogether for this trip thinking it would be less intense. While it was, the roughness wasn’t.
This was by far my roughest ride of 2026. My back row rides and back of the train rides were much better than what I got this time around. Scott, who also visited the park the time we got rained out, said he enjoyed it much more that day. D’Marcus didn’t find it as rough as the rest of us and he got to ride it back in June as well. I dunno…
This just wasn’t enjoyable for Jen, Scott, or myself. We didn’t even bother riding it again, especially since it’s still running just one train.
Barrels O' Fun
When we finally made our way over to Barrels O’ Fun, we saw a line that looked to be maybe a 20-30 minute wait. We needed the credit and got in line. About halfway through our wait, all three trains were stopped out on the course. The ride stayed down for about 15 minutes before resuming operations. During that time, the Fast Pass queue doubled in length. That meant that we were pretty much at a 20-30 minute wait all over again.
After our hour or so wait, we finally boarded. Apparently four adults cannot ride together. They broke us into two groups of two which makes the capacity on this ride even more horrendous.
At least the ride is still as crazy as it was back at Six Flags America (SFA) though. This thing spun like a wash machine’s spin cycle. They didn’t slow it down whatsoever after the move.

Unsure if We Will Be Back Before Bakunawa is Ready
After visiting SFGAdv four times this year, I don’t see myself going back unless it’s for Holiday in the Park. Since Six Flags is bringing that back this year I might make my way up there as I always enjoyed my visits to the park during the event in the past. Heck, maybe I’ll find that Bakunawa Coming Soon shirt that I wanted to buy so bad on this trip. They sold out a few days before we arrived. Of course, they got in a restock a few days after our visit. And don’t even tell me to buy it online. The Six Flags Merch store is not great. It mostly features several former Cedar Fair parks and that’s about it. And those online stores were also better before the merger. I’ll just have to see if I can find another way to secure one.
