Take Off: The Launch of We Were Inverted

The idea to build a website revolving around my love for amusement parks and roller coasters is one that I’ve had for a number of years. With a background in photography, graphic art, and journalism, it was always something I wanted to do. My problem? Finding the time to make it happen. Well, in 2020 the world handed many of us a lot of downtime. Even though I was still working full-time throughout the start of Covid-19 pandemic, I used my time outside of work to finally make this site a reality.

My aim for this site is to share my experiences, both past and present, as it pertains to roller coasters and amusement parks. Not only will you find my CreditsFavoritesRecord Holders, and my massive Pin Collection, but this site’s Blog will feature regular park trips, news, features, editorial, interviews, and my thoughts on things happening within the industry.

Some of My Early Inspirations

Leading up to this site’s launch, a number of YouTubers served as inspiration to make We Were Inverted a reality. I enjoy each of these channels for different reasons and suggest you check them out and support them all.

How the Site Got its Name

When I sat down to start planning out this site, I didn’t even have a name in mind. A few ideas rolled into my head, but when I started thinking about my favorite things in the hobby, inverted coasters stuck out. Immediately, I was reminded of the infamous scene in “Top Gun” where Maverick and Goose explain how they were inverted with a Russian MIG jet. Since James and I always quote this movie, and the fact that the URL existed, We Were Inverted was born.

From that point on, all kinds of ideas and funny puns to use on this site began to take shape. All of my friends on the site are called Flight Crew and referred to as Wingmen during our park trips. Then there is the ranking system for everyone based on how many different parks we’ve attended together. As for the alternates, I’m trying to figure out what to do for them. All I do know is their plaque is still down “in the ladies room.” If you don’t get the joke, just watch the movie. At least watch the clip above to see how this site got its name.
