I’ve always been a sucker for visiting small amusement parks. Back in 2018 I visited Quassy for the first time. It was only for a few hours, but I ended up having a lot of fun, especially on Wooden Warrior. I was alone for that trip and have been wanting to get back up to the New England region with Sam and Jen so they can visit some of the parks up north. Lucky for us, we all had some vacation time coming up and decided to finally make it happen.
This trip would see us visit several parks, some of the same ones I did during my 2018 trip. That trip saw me visit Luna Park, Rye Playland, Six Flags New England (SFNE), Lake Compounce, and Quassy. While the New York parks would not be a part of this trip, SFNE, Lake Compounce, and Quassy were. And since we weren’t able to leave early, we decided to kick things off with Quassy. We’d arrive in the area around 4 p.m., so we took advantage of their evening entry tickets. There would still be plenty of time for us to get in all the rides and explore the park.
Small Parks Just Hit Different
With Quassy being on the smaller side and only having three coasters, we didn’t feel the rush to go bonkers like we do at larger parks going from ride to ride. The vibe is different at smaller parks and I always feel like I can just enjoy the atmosphere a bit more and take in the park more than I can at the corporate parks.
Over the last few years I’ve tried to include as many smaller parks into our trips as I can. Both Sam and Jen have also come to love these parks as I do. Quassy was no different.
We got to the park a little early for our evening entry tickets. Since we didn’t need tickets to enter, that meant I could do a round of photos while all three of us explored the park without having to worry about what we wanted to ride just yet. And once I was done with my photos, which there are plenty in the gallery below, the camera went back in the car and our rides would begin.
Crazy 8 Spin Coaster
It’s felt like ages since I claimed a new SBF Visa Spinning Coaster credit. Thankfully Quassy had me covered. My quest to ride at least 100 of these grew by one as this coaster was added to the park’s line up last year. It wasn’t here for my prior visit. We jumped on this first before moving on to the rest of the park.
Little Dipper
There was no way we could pass up a ride on this historic kids coaster. Sure it’s small. Sure it’s a bit janky. But do you know what? Having a couple adult friends get on a ride like this with you is something you’ll all talk about for years to come. And best of all, when we came back into the station we were asked if we wanted to go again. Of course we said yes!
Wooden Warrior
When I rode Wooden Warrior back in 2018 I was super impressed. This little coaster had lots of airtime in its short course. I always told Sam not to sleep on this coaster. I also told her I like it better than Oscar’s Wacky Taxi, which she finally rode earlier this year, and Kentucky Flyer, which we both rode for our first time last year. Would that still be true? I couldn’t wait to find out.
After six rides I can say without a doubt, it’s my favorite small Gravity Group coaster. I’d even say that I enjoy it more than Switchback from ZDT’s Amusement Park, if you want to lump that in with rest. Wooden Warrior is a great ride and Sam and Jen ended up loving it just as much as I do.

The Perfect Stop for Day 1 of This Trip
Talk about a perfect park to get this small New England trip underway. We didn’t have to get up super early. We didn’t have to worry about not having enough time to ride everything we wanted. And even if the park had some crowds, they would have been something much easier to deal with than that of a larger park. Thankfully that wasn’t the case and we were able to ride a bunch of the park’s offerings. What a fun, small park.
Do yourself a favor and be sure to visit Quassy or any small parks during your coaster trips. They can all use our support and it’s great to have alternatives to the standard corporate parks from the mega chains that seem to be making some “choices” these days.
