We made our way from Lake Compounce without delay. Thankfully we didn’t catch any of the rush hour traffic so it looked like we’d have a few hours to get in whatever we could at Six Flags New England (SFNE). The rain was still headed our way, so we didn’t waste any time after entering the park. Thankfully I could still picture the park’s layout in my mind, so once Sam and Jen (mostly Sam) told me what they wanted to ride most, I directed us to our destinations.
Just How Many Rides Could We Fit In?
At first Sam wanted to save Superman the Ride for her 300th coaster. If every coaster in the park was open, we’d have to make it the second to last coaster we rode. One problem, though. Flashback was on an extended closure. That meant as long as every single coaster was open, Sam could get to 300, but it would have to be the final coaster she’d ride at the park.
With all that in mind I got us underway and accumulating credits. After a few of them, the skies began to turn a dark gray. We had just rode Wicked Cyclone and Sam said she wanted to ride Superman now. She was beginning to fear that if she waited, she might not ride it before it closed for the rain. And even worse, what if for some reason it didn’t open the following day too? That would be a nightmare. It was open when she made that call so that’s what we did.
Wicked Cycone
I was praying that Wicked Cyclone lived up to all the hype I heaped upon it over the last few years. I had done the same with Storm/Wind Chaser and when Sam and I visited Kentucky Kingdom last year, the ride felt so slow and way less intense. I didn’t want a repeat of that as I rank this right there with Twisted Timbers – a ride that Sam absolutely loves.
After one ride I could tell that we wouldn’t have a repeat of last year. Both Sam and Jen loved the coaster and although we were trying to rack up Sam’s credits before the rain, we couldn’t pass up a quick re-ride. This ride is just so damn good.
Superman the Ride
I’ve always liked this ride and know there are many people out there who can’t stand the restraints currently in use on the trains. To be honest, it’s been years since I last rode this coaster. I didn’t even get to ride it my last visit. I had very little time that night, maybe an hour or so, and needed to grab both Wicked Cyclone and Joker. So I can’t even recall if I rode the ride with the older or current restraints when I did ride it last. I don’t know what year they were changed. I just know that I loved this ride the first two times I visited.
Riding it this time around I felt those restraints immediately. I still loved the ride’s course and elements, but I was certainly feeling it by the end. We only got one ride, but my thighs got crushed. Sam expressed a similar feeling. We both love Skyrush, so we’re used to sore thighs, but this is different though. I don’t know if they will ever replace these restraints, or maybe the trains entirely. If they do though, I feel like it would vastly improve this already amazing ride.
Quantum Accelerator
For months I have heard so many coaster enthusiasts praise this ride. Some even call Quantum Accelerator the third best coaster in the park. While I’m glad they like it so much, I just don’t see it. I think it’s maybe the third from worst coaster in the park. It doesn’t do much for me and I find DarKoaster to be a much better ride when it comes to this ride model.
Let me say that I don’t hate this ride. I just don’t get the hype. I’d much rather ride most of the park’s other coaster offerings than this. Is this a hot take? It leaves me wondering if all the YouTubers and enthusiasts invited out for its opening heaped a bunch of praise onto it just so they’ll be invited back for future events. That wouldn’t surprise me.
Maybe it will ride better tomorrow, but after my first ride, it’s rather meh! It also went down numerous times in just a few hours. It is an Intamin though, so I guess they’re still good ole Intamin.

Getting Whipped Tomorrow!
By the end of operations and getting drenched in the rain, Sam was left just one coaster shy of 300. The one we missed? Catwoman’s Whip. So that will be where we head first thing tomorrow morning unless Flashback randomly reopens and she decided she wants a Vekoma Boomerang as her 300th credit.
It’s supposed to be a hot one tomorrow too, so I’m definitely going to be riding Blizzard River too. I’ve never done that and it should be a good way to cool off after a round of pictures. I fully plan on getting lots of those tomorrow too.
