Runaway Mine Train - Miner Mike's Adventure Town

Miner Mike’s – Sam Runs Away with Her 200th Credit

Whenever I plan a multi-park trip I always jump on the Roller Coaster Database (RCDB) and use the “Parks Nearby” feature when looking at a park I plan to visit. If there are any stray coasters at small parks or family entertainment centers close by, we are going to visit them if time permits. That feature came in handy for this trip, without a doubt.

With Worlds of Fun starting off the trip, we found a Python Pit credit at the PowerPlay Family Entertainment Center to nab when leaving the park. Sadly they were closed for renovations when we arrived, which we didn’t know ahead of time. We were looking forward to that awesome looking Python Pit too. Check out its photos on RCDB.

Heading from Kansas City down to Branson for two days at Silver Dollar City (SDC), I found the Copperhead Mountain Coaster, Runaway Mountain Coaster, The Branson Coaster, and Track Family Fun Parks using that RCDB feature. You can find reports for all of those stops on this trip on the site, if you haven’t read them already.

The next major park coming up for this trip would be Six Flags St. Louis (SFSL), but I did find two stops we could visit along the way. And after three days of go, go go, we thought a more relaxed day would be nice. The first of these two stops would be at Miner Mike’s Adventure Town, a family entertainment center for a Zamperla Powered Coaster called Runaway Mine Train. The second would see us detour into Illinois ever so slightly for the Aerie’s Alpine Coaster at the Aerie Resort.

Crew - We Were Inverted
Missing out on Python Pit a few days before, that meant the Runaway Mine Train would be Sam's 200th credit.

Sam's 200th Credit

Had PowerPlay been open the first day of our trip, Sam would have earned her 200th credit on The Branson Coaster. As much as she enjoyed that ride, she thought the idea that this small kiddie coaster being the one associated with this milestone would be awesome. It reminded us of when Greg reached his 100th credit on Fiesta Express at the Fun Fore All Family Entertainment Center back in 2021. Both milestones came on small coasters at out of the way family entertainment centers, following visits to much later parks. And both of those visits, we ended up having a ton of fun and making some awesome memories.

Riding Separate & Riding Cheap

Since Miner Mike’s had just opened, there wasn’t too many people there, at least riding the coaster. Wanting some footage of the ride in action, we decided to ride it separately. I also wanted to capture Sam achieving her milestone like I did with Greg. When I took my turn afterward, I had my GoPro strapped to my chest to record this epic ride.

While the word “epic” might sound like a joke, for a family entertainment center, this small coaster is kind of cool. There is so much theming surrounding the oval course. You go through a rockwork tunnel and the coaster’s elevation above the first floor gives it some height. It’s also one of the first things that grabs your attention upon entering since it goes around right above you.

Perhaps the best part of this coaster, however, was the price. It cost $1. Yeah, it’s small, but still. Just $1 is crazy for anything in today’s world. And you go around the track six times too. This might be the cheapest pay per ride coaster I have ever experienced.

Miner Mike's looks a lot smaller than it actually is from the outside, with rides & tons of arcade games.

A Memorable Stop

After three consecutive days of waking up early and staying up late flying, driving, and riding a bunch of massive coasters, this day was exactly what we needed. A couple of small stops and a chance to unwind. Add in Sam’s milestone and this day was the perfect break before we got back to going nuts with long days of riding big coasters and driving from town to town, and state to state all over again.

Congrats Sam! You’ve managed to grab so many coasters, some big like Kingda Ka and some small like Runaway Mine Train. I hope you look back at all of them with fond memories, like I do riding them with you for the first time. Here’s to many more! Can’t wait for any other trips we plan in the future.
