Mine Blower - Fun Spot America: Kissimmee

Fun Spot Kissimmee – Rain Followed by Some Pain

It didn’t take us too long to get to Fun Spot America (FSA) Kissimmee from the Orlando location. When we arrived with the rain finishing up. We heard Mine Blower squealing around the track from the parking lot, but then it went silent. There was basically no one here though, so I guess it was to be expected if no one was riding it. What we didn’t realize, however, was that Hurricane, Galaxy Spin, and Sea Serpent were all down and Mine Blower had just been shut down temporarily. Every coaster in the park was closed.

We talked to a staff member at the ticket counter and she told us she wasn’t sure if the coasters would re-open that night or not. Sam and I were bummed. According to the forecast the rain was supposed to move off, but if the park wasn’t going to run them or close up for the night, we should just head back to the hotel.

What we decided to do was walk around the park and take some pictures for a bit. If the rides didn’t open back up by the time I did a loop around the park, then we’d figure out what we wanted to do. They were open until 10 p.m., so there was still plenty of time to get in rides should they start running again. Thankfully, this plan paid off.

Galaxy Spin - Fun Spot America: Kissimmee
I've been on a few coasters of this model, but none of them have spun me as much as Galaxy Spin.

No Crowds on this Wednesday

Like I said, there was no one here. So if/when those rides did re-open, we could board them all quickly without any kind of wait. Once again, I hate to see a park slow, but when time and weather are not on my side, I’ll take getting those rides in any way I can.

Thankfully by time I did my round of photos the rain was pretty much over. We saw Galaxy Spin begin to test and Mine Blower began screeching again. Sea Serpent and Hurricane, however, were still down. At least we’d get half the credits if worse came to worst.

Galaxy Spin

The park’s spinning mouse was first up. This particular model can be pretty wild, but none have provided a more out of control spin than Ragin’ Cajun at Six Flags America (SFA). Welp, until now.

This coaster spun like crazy and I got off this ride dizzy as can be. Sam was feeling the same way and we couldn’t believe the ride we just had. I’m not sure if it was enhanced by the wet track, but damn this one spun! If spinning coasters are your thing, you won’t want to skip this one. Let me know how much spinning you got.

Mine Blower

Next up was Mine Blower. Was it as bad as people say? Better? Worse? It was time to find out.

So yeah, it hurts! Even with the RMC re-track, this thing beats you up bad. I don’t understand how a coaster this new is this bad. Usually the Gravity Group gets a ton of praise for their coasters and recently, re-tracking of non-Gravity Group coasters. Why is this one so rough?

Even with all that said, Sam and I tried it a couple more times, electing to do so toward the front to save us from the beating in the back. I can’t say this ride is enjoyable though. If it’s your thing, by all means, enjoy it. It’s not mine and I’m known to enjoy one of the Gravity Group’s rougher creations in Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus. Mine Blower is way worse in my opinion.

Hurricane

And now for another surprise! Hurricane, along with Sea Serpent did eventually open. I had heard that Hurricane is another rough ride, but Sam and I didn’t find that to be true at all. We quite liked it.

The poor ride op stationed at this ride, far away from everything else in the park, was super cool. He told us a couple times when he saw us walking around that the ride wasn’t quite open yet. He knew we wanted to ride it bad, so when it finally was open, he flagged us over and got us on a couple times in a row.

Hurricane - Fun Spot America: Kissimmee
Hurricane looked like it was going to be a rough ride, but we were pleasantly surprised with how fun it was.

Orlando Over Kissimmee, But Both are Worth a Visit

I will say that I did enjoy the FSA Orlando location more than FSA Kissimmee when it comes to their ride collections. It was nice having all the shopping and restaurants next to this Kissimmee park, however. It came in real handy during the rain, that’s for sure. There is also a haunted house that I pondered doing too if you enjoy that sort of thing. We didn’t get to it, but I kind of wish we did now in hindsight.

If you’re a coaster enthusiast, I say you should do them both regardless. And if you get the season pass, don’t skip out on the SkyCoasters at both parks,  but especially the one here in Kissimmee. It’s currently the world’s tallest at over 300 feet. It is only a $10 upcharge if you’re a passholder. I couldn’t “pass” that up. Yeah, bad joke, I know. But seriously, it goes WAY up there and the staff working the ride was awesome too.
