Along with Idlewild & Soakzone, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park has been on my to do list for years. I’ve passed through the area a few times on roadtrips, but every time I was in the area too early or too late to stop. I made sure for this trip that it was just Idlewild and DelGrosso’s on my agenda. I wanted to have time to finally enjoy each for a few hours. And enjoy each I did!
Before the Rides, Some Food
For years I have heard good things about the food at this park. With this in mind, I made sure I didn’t eat at Idlewild or on the way to DelGrosso’s. The first thing I wanted to do was grab a bite to eat. Since DelGrosso’s is known for making pasta sauce, I wanted something Italian, although they had some other options that sounded and looked yummy.
I ended up being basic and getting a pizza. It took a few minutes for them to make it, but when I got it I could see why. This wasn’t just some slice or personal pizza that had been sitting under a warmer. This was cooked when ordered. It was so hot too so I couldn’t even eat it immediately although by that point I was starving. When I did take a bite, I was impressed. The sauce was amazing and flavored with pepperoni. It didn’t take me long to eat my pizza and it did fill me up. I kind of wanted to try something else, but my stomach had no room left.
While on the topic of food, before leaving the park my plan was to grab a few jars of this sauce from their gift shop. Yes, they sell their sauce in their gift shops. Cool, huh?
Crazy Mouse
While this park doesn’t have any unique coasters, just a spinning mouse and Wacky Worm, that didn’t mean I wasn’t excited to jump on them and claim those credits. Like with Idlewild, my main goal at this park was to take in the atmosphere, take some pictures, and as I said above at this park, try some of the food. I just hoped the spinning combined with my recently finished pizza wouldn’t be at odds. Since the spinning rides at Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America (NUMoA) two months ago kicking my butt, the worry was there. And it was also pretty hot. Luckily, it was later in the day so the sun wasn’t at full force anymore.
Long story short, this is your standard Reverchon Spinning Wild Mouse. I liked the colorful trains, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. And no, it didn’t kick my butt. I walked off aye okay with the pizza remaining in my belly.
Wacky Worm
After walking around the park and taking some photos, I went into the gift shop and bought several jars of sauce. I got a bunch for myself and some for my coworkers in several other styles. We work in an Italian restaurant and a lot of us wanted to try their sauces after I showed them videos of the park and that they sell their sauce here.
Upon leaving the gift shop I made my way over to the Wacky Worm, which I saved for last since it was on the way back to my car. I was carrying my camera bag and several bags full of sauce jars while in the queue. Talk about loose articles! No, I didn’t take anything on the ride. I set them all down on the platform and got in my Wacky Worm ride before wrapping up my day at the park.
You know what you get with Wacky Worms, so I don’t need to go into detail here. I did get some fun pictures of the always slightly goofy, slightly scary looking trains going by though.
Don't Leave Without Some Sauce
Since I didn’t get a chance to write this trip report right away, let me say that the sauces I bought were a hit with everyone. I even ended up ordering more online. Keep that in mind should you find yourself visiting DelGrosso’s.
This is also a great park for families with a water park that looks to be amazing. Even if you are passing through, give this park a couple of hours for a few rides and especially, a meal. You won’t regret it.
