Over the last few years I have been on a quest to ride as many mountain coasters as I can find during my travels. In 2024 I was able to add a bunch to my credit count when Sam, Jen, and I visited Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tenn. And earlier this year, Sam and I grabbed a few more in Branson, Miss. and just over the Illinois state line. During this trip, there was only one for Jen and I to visit, but it was brand new and located in the Wisconsin Dells called, the Wisconsin Dells Mountain Coaster. With plans to visit the Dells for Mt. Olympus, you best bet we were going to find time for it. And we did, first thing upon entering the Dells.
Wanting to Ride Before the Sunset
After leaving Little Amerricka, earlier, I wanted to make sure we rode this with as much sunlight as possible. I wanted to film a POV of my ride and did. I still need to publish it, however.
Once we finished up with this mountain coaster, we also planned to head over to Tom Foolerys and Knuckleheads to grab some cheap kiddie coaster credits. Yeah, yeah… Don’t judge!
Wisconsin Dells Mountain Coaster
After purchasing our tickets, we were about to get in line, but noticed a large family with a bunch of kids lining up in front of us. I learned my lesson a long time ago on the Camelback Mountain Coaster in Pennsylvania. If you think people in front of you might go slow, or potentially stop, wait back or even ask if they can space you out a bit before sending you up the lift. Wisp’s Mountain Adventures in Maryland did this for Sam and I when an older lady with her grandchild said she wasn’t going to go fast as she sat down. Other times you might luck out and be told to ride again if someone stops over and over like was the case during the first ride Sam and I experienced on the Copperhead Mountain Coaster earlier this year in Branson, Miss. Camelback, however, just said oh well. So yeah, just keep this in mind. That’s my pro tip for riding mountain coasters.
After we saw the family coming back into the station, we went ahead and stood in the short line and boarded. Right away, I took a liking to the trains/carts here. Most of the mountain coasters I’ve experienced have plain, flat color trains/carts. The ones here feature a wrap around the front, top, and sides. I think they look great
As for the ride’s course, this is lift hill-first mountain coasters. This means you’re going to start off with the long lift and then get to run down the entire course, hopefully at full speed. So just be prepared for some downtime to start. I always like to take in the sights on when starting off with the lift. Plus, it’s a nice little build up of anticipation for what is to come.
Once you make it to the top, you immediately begin flying down through the trees. Part of this portion of the ride is out in the woods and you can’t see anything around you but Mother Nature. This is my favorite part of the ride and usually my favorite part of any mountain coaster. I love being out in the middle of the woods like that.
After a short time, however, you do ride to the left and get pretty close to the lift hill. Here you are no longer as deep into the trees, which is a little less scenic, but by no means bad.
As you get toward the end of this coaster you break out of the woods and into an open area. Here you are trapped between the woods, station/parking lot, and a nearby street. This is where many mountain coasters toss some helixes for roadside appeal. There is a small bit of turn around track on this one, but there’s not too much going on here. Maybe this area has a lighting package at night? I’m not too sure as we didn’t get a chance to come back at night. The road next to the track doesn’t seem to get heavy traffic anyhow, so I’m not sure how many eyes it would catch. This location is small drive off the main drag of hotels, shops, and restaurants. That is also a good thing though as you don’t get the visual or noise pollution from them.

A Nice Addition to the Dells
With this coaster opening only a couple of months before our visit, we were so glad to be able to include this into our trip. The Wisconsin Dells is certainly a tourist trap town with so much to do, but this will certainly appeal to us thrill seekers. And unlike Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Branson, this is the only mountain coaster in town. So I hope that helps get some visitors out to experience this fun new addition.
Next time I’m in the region, I want to ride this again at night. I think it will be one of those pitch black dark rides that I love. Well, unless they light things up with a light package. Either way, I’m sure it will be a fun ride.
I also want to say that the staff here was super nice and looking to hear about everyone’s experience. I wish them the best and if you’re visiting the Dells, make sure you include it your plans.
